The 1982 Gold Proof Five Pounds Piece has been graded by NGC as PF70 Ultra Cameo. The coin was originally issued as part of a 1982 UK 4 coin gold proof sovereign set, with a maximum mintage of 2,500 sets. The obverse design features a young portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, sculpted by Royal Mint engraver Arnold Machin. The reverse depicts Benedetto Pistrucci's iconic portrayal of St George slaying the dragon. The 1982 Gold Proof Five Pounds Piece is a very difficult date to obtain in the top grade of PF70, making the piece very sought after by collectors.
