Large silver medal made to celebrate the coronation of Edward VII in 1902, following the death of his mother, Queen Victoria in 1901. Crafted in .925 silver, the obverse bears a crowned portrait of Edward VII in his coronation robes by George William de Saulles. De Saulles also engraved the coinage portrait of Edward VII, the only one to appear on his money between 1902 and his death in 1910. Edward’s wife, Alexandra of Denmark, appears on the reverse, crowned, veiled and draped: also by de Saulles. Most examples of this medal are significantly smaller and can be found in both silver and bronze. This one is presented in its original leather and velvet presentation box.
