Silver medal commemorating the visit of the newly ascended Queen Victoria to the City of London in 1837, prior to her coronation in 1838. This medal is the work of William Wyon whose name appears on the truncation of Victoria’s neck in the obverse portrait. In this portrait she wears no crown or diadem but a high plaited knot. The reverse, if not covered by the mount would show the facade of the City of London Guildhall with the royal standard flying above. The attractive mount - also silver - bears pale blue enamelling and has a ring to the top for wear. This may have been added to be worn at an official reception.
